Arweinodd Carol y cerdded 'ma y cyntaf, gobeithio o lawer. Dechreuon ni a'r dafarn ac aethon ni heibio mwyngloddiau a chwareli o gwmpas y cefn  gwlad, yn

siarad â'n gilydd yn Gymraeg ac yn Saesneg. Roedd bwyd wedi ei baratoi i ni pan aethon ni yn ôl i'r dafarn.

Roedd y cerdded 'ma yn ddiddorol am llawn gwybodaeth. Ymwelon ni â'r safle "Mustard Gas". Ail Ryfel Byd, yn Rhydymwyn, ac aethon ni o gwmpas yr ardal natur yna rwan. Dangoswyd i ni dapiau fideo  cyn ac ar ôl a chawson ni ein gadael yn rhyfeddu.

Roedd y papur yn wylb a doedd 'na ddim posib i ysgrifennu. Wnaeth tudalenau lynu gyda i gilydd. Beth bynnag! Wnaethon ni orffen y daith a wnaethon ni fwynhau fo. MYND AM DRO O GWMPAS RUTHUN I CHWILO AM YSBRYDION -

dydd Sul 18 Tachwedd.

Roedd hi'n dywyll ac yn oer panwaethon ni fynd i fyny Stryd Clwyd - yn gwrando âr hen storiau gan Geraint. Roedd o'n wybodus iawn (hanessydd dw i'n credu). Yn anffodus dydy fy nghof ddim yn dda "Ti 'n siwr o dy ffeithiau?" Meddai Geoff (fy ngŵr) - felly wnaethon ni drio i ysgrifennu rhywbeth - y ddau o'honon ni wnaethon ni ddechrau'r daith o flaen Starr Inn.

"Faint o dafarnau oedd yn Stryd Clwyd  tua 1850?" Ateb 13 (Roedd 'na mwy 'na 40 yn Rhuthun a tua 3300 o bobl yn byw yma) yn y sgwâr roedd 'na 12 o dafarnau eraill rargien fawr! Weithiau roedd 'na res o darfarnau weithiau roedd 'na dŷ rhwng y tafarnau.

Pam cymaint o dafarnau? Roedd Rhuthun ar y ffordd "DROVERS" (y porthmyn) roedd pobl yn Rhewl yn Rhor esgidiau ar y gwartheg. Roedd y dafarn "IWERDDON" yn agos i'r sgwâ yn ddefnyddiol i'r "Irish Drovers".

Yn y sgwâr roedd 'na ymladdfeydd teirw a chŵn ~ dim ymladdfedd ceiliogod (Roedd hynny tu ôl i westy 'r Gordon)

Roedd bywyd yn arw yn y sgwâr dw i'n creddu..

Wnaethon ni wrando âr storiau diddorol iawn am y tafarnau ac am ysbrydion amser maith yn ôl, roedd na ysbryd mewn Tŷ (Stryd Clwyd). Pan roedd he'n teimelon oer mewn staffell yna pan roedd yr adeiladwyr yn symud carreg o dan ffenestr, waethon nhw ffeindio esgyrn cath efo croeslun i mewn wnaeth y ffenestr oedd wedi bod yn sownd, agor yn sydn.... wedyn, ar ôl gorffen y gwaith roedd y Tŷ yn LLonydo hyfedd iawn!

Roedd stori arall am y milwr ffrengig roedd o wedi ci lladd o flagn y dafarn yn ystod y rhyfel sifil ail ganrif ar bymtheg.

Ydy o yn y dafarn rwan? Felly..............

Beth bynnag - roedd y sgŵrs yn ddiddoral iawn diolch i Geriaint

Walks

WALKING IS GOOD FOR YOU
WE HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF VERY SUCCESSFUL WALKS SINCE THE CLWB WAS LAUNCHED.

We have roamed the country side on a 2.5 mile walk starting from the Miners arms at Gwernaffield taking in the local history of the mines.

The day was cold but dry for most of the time at the end of the walk we enjoyed a buffet and chat over a drink or two.

The next walk was interesting all be it a little surreal, we toured the valley works in Rhydymwyn which is a government owned site with a purpose built overground and underground chemical weapons production and storage plant.

This site was top secret with Mustard being produced here although none of it was used; it was a little like being on an Avengers T.V drama set.

Today the area is a nature conservation reserve, after walking around the site there was a film about the past and the present educational and wildlife activities.
(After the walk we all enjoyed a buffet and a drink at the pub.

Treasure Hunt

was not for the meek, not due to the arduous mileage but due to the weather.

St Peters Square Rhuthun, with snow starting to fall

The day arrived for the Ruthin Walk; the met office had issued a severe weather warning but Clwb Llanllawen decided to go ahead anyway

The weather threw everything at us, rain, snow wind and it was bitterly cold but in spite of this the members of Clwb Llanllawen hit the road to complete the Ruthin Walk treasure hunt.

The walk took people from the square down towards the park, around Ruthin past the craft centre and back to the square through the church yard.

The walk was completed in record time due to the weather, no one wanted to hang around, not even the dogs that would normally enjoy a walk.

We met in the pub afterwards and all were pleasantly surprised at the amount of answers they got right.

It was a very enjoyable couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.

We hope to repeat this walk in the warmer weather, so don’t worry if you missed out on it.

The next walk planned is on Sunday 12th August so don’t miss out.

This walk starts at 2pm from the White Horse Car Park at Llanfair D.C just outside Rhuthun.

We will be taking a 2 mile nature and butterfly walk through Eyarth, and afterwards meeting in the White Horse pub for a well deserved drink.
Dogs are welcome on this walk so come and join us after all, walking is good for you.

A Walk around Eyarth 12 th August

It was fine and quite warm when clwb Llanllawen went for a walk Eyarth with Carol and John. We walked along the road from Llanfair towards Pwllglas. By the bridge we climbed up the hill through the wood to the limestone pavement.
We were looking for butterflies Carol saw at least 11 – but I only saw cabbage whites! Anyway, I found blackberries instead. Lovely!
Then we walked down the hill, along the vale, through lots of mud.
We had drinks in the Ceffyl Gwyn at the end.

Thanks to Carol and John for a good walk.

A walk round Ruthin Looking for Ghosts.

Sunday 18th November.

It was dark and cold when we walked up Clwyd street - listening to old stories told by Geraint. He was very knowledgeable (historian I think). Unfortunately my memory is not good.

"Are you sure of your facts said Geoff {my husband} - therefore we have tried to write something together.

We started our journey in front of the Star Inn

"How many inns were there in Clwyd Street around 1850" Answer 13 (There were more than 40 pubs in Ruthin - and in about 3300 people living here then). In the square there were a further 12. Gracious Me! Sometimes there were several inns in a row - sometimes there was a house  between the Inns.

              Why so many inns?

Ruthin was on the drovers route. At Rhewl there were people who put shoes on the cattle. There was an inn "IWERDDON" near the square in Ruthin used by by the Irish Drovers.

In the square there was "Bullfighting, dogfighting but not cock fighting - that was behind the Crown.

We listened to  very interesting stories  about the inns and about the Ghosts.

A long time ago, there was a ghost in a house in Clwyd Street it felt cold in a room there. When the builders (working on the House) moved a stone under the window, they found the bones of a cat with a crucifix around its neck. The window which previously had been stuck, flew open -  since the the house has been peaceful Strange eh?

there was another story about a French soldier. He was killed in front of an inn during the Civil War and his ghost was said to haunt the inn. Is he still there?

Anyway- it was a very interesting talk.

Thanks to Geraint.
